Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and presidential flag bearer of Labour Party Peter Obi |
The Spokesman, National Consultative Forum, Yinusa Tanko has said there are plans to merge the Labour Party and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to defeat the APC and PDP in 2023.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja recently, Yinusa said he cannot give details of everything, but there are serious plans on merging the two parties.
According to him "merging the two parties is an idea that have been on the ground, and we believe that the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi, who is already grounded in the Southern part of the country, needs to work with people like Kwankwaso, a strong person in the North.
Yinusa Tanko said that both Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, have exhibited character, resilience, and determination while working closely with the disadvantaged.
He further enjoined Nigerians to support Peter Obi and Kwankwaso if the talk about merging the two political parties come through.
In his words: “What I can say is that some of us have been involved in this arrangement and are working very seriously to actualize this plan. It’s an idea that is still on ground, and we feel that those who are already on ground, for example comrade Peter Obi who is very grounded in the southern part of the country, need to work with other people who are also more grounded in the north, especially Rabiu Kwankwaso.
These individuals have shown character, resilience, determination, working with people on the gorund and we are at the down-trodden. I think Nigerians should give them support if our talk comes through.”
In a related development, Human Rights Activist, Deji Adeyanju has given reasons why it may be difficult for other parties and their presidential candidates to be able to defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC or the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2023 polls.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar |
Adeyanju in a statement on social media opined that it would be very difficult to defeat Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP if other presidential aspirants like Sowore, peter Obi and Kwankwaso don’t work together.
"There’s no way Peter Obi, Kwankwaso, Sowore and other politicians can defeat APC and PDP if they don’t work together because elections are not won in urban areas, but rural areas. Politicians should learn to swallow their pride and work together. This I must be president by all means, is why APC and PDP will continue to humble egoistic political actors.”
He therefore enjoined all the minor political parties to embrace this truth in the best interest of Nigerians and work together.
