KWSG TO COMMENCE DREDGING OF ASA RIVER.

The dredging of Asa River, in Ilorin, to prevent flooding in some parts of the metropolis will commence soon.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Remilekun Banigbe gave this indication during an inspection tour to the bank of the river to ascertain the level of the flow of water.

Mrs Banigbe noted that the dredging, expected to commence by the middle of October, would be a lasting solution to the perennial overflow of the river, especially at Unity Road, Ilorin.

The dredging is sequel to the visit of officials of the Ecological Fund in the Presidency to the river for an on the spot assessment last week.

The Ecological Fund's intervention is to avert any loss of life and property.

It could be recalled that the Commissioner had earlier advised residents at the river's bank to vacate the areas before the commencement of the exercise.

She enjoined all the residents to comply with the directive of the state government for the safety of their lives and properties.

Recall also that the State Government had earlier commenced the clearing and evacuation of debris on the river to prevent the looming flooding in the city of Ilorin.

The exercise was carried out at Unity Road axis by officials of the Ministry of Environment, Environmental Task Force, the State Fire Service and the professional local divers.
