Against the backdrop of the rising wave of illegal dumpsites within Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Remilekun Banigbe, yesterday paid an unscheduled visit to Itakudima, Zuban Area, in Ilorin West Local Government, to assess the volume of wastes at the illegal dumpsite in the area.
The visit was part of the state government's efforts to curtail illegal dumpsites, especially in the Ilorin metropolis.
The Commissioner, who was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Dupe Adekeye, noted that the waste has constituted a big threat, as well as posing a serious danger to the people living in the area.
Banigbe explained that the visit will enhance the prompt attention of the state government's intervention team to evacuate the refuse on time.
A resident of the community, Alfa Issa Kawu said the waste was gradually becoming a heap, adding that if not promptly attended to would eventually get out of control.
According to him, with the state government's intervention, the plan to make the place a market square will be fully realised.
Alfa Kawu had earlier lauded the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his relentless efforts at making the state a better place to live and prayed for the success of his administration.
