The organisers of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show has announced the date for the launch of its seventh edition.
BBNaija is practically the most popular reality show in the country with many of its contestants going on to become celebrities.
The first season of the reality show aired in 2006 and was won by a scriptwriter and production assistant, Katung Aduwak, who went home with the grand prize of $100,000. There was, however, a gap of 11 years before the second season (See Gobe) of the show commenced on January 22, 2017. That season was eventually won by Warri, Delta State-born rapper, Efe Ejeba, who got the grand prize of N25m.
In 2018, the third season (Double Wahala) followed and was won by a pilot, Miracle Igbokwe. Igbokwe got N25m, a brand new Hyundai Tuscon SUV, home appliances worth N3m and a trip for two to an exotic location, as well as a year’s supply of Pepsi and Aquafina water.

Unarguably the most popular reality show in the country, Big brother naija is back for a seventh season and the excitement of the show’s fans has been palpable, especially on social media.
At a media briefing to unveil the new season of the show during the week, the Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels, at MultiChoice Nigeria, Dr Busola Tejumola, revealed that the company recorded over 40,000 audition entries this year. She added that the fourth edition would feature live shows and ninjas, which were a part of the show before the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, the prize money was increased from N30m of last year to N50m, in addition to other prizes.
Tejumola also noted that this season’s housemates will undergo a psychology evaluation before going into the house.
This year’s winner will be walking home with a grand prize of N100m— a cash prize of N50m and N50m worth of other prizes from the sponsors. In addition, 30 fans of the show will win N1m each in the ‘Fave Lock-In’ promo exclusive to DStv and GOtv customers.
The Multichoice executive also stated that the show will retain its voting style from last year, as it (voting) will only be on the Big Brother Naija website, mobile site, and the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps for active customers; instead of through text messages like in earlier seasons of the show. The number of votes each subscriber will have will be determined by their subscription packages.
