World Blood donor day

Tuesday 14th of June, 2022 marked the world Blood donor day as set aside by the United Nations. The department of Haematology and blood transfusion of the university of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) in collaboration with several other organizations and groups joined other health sectors in the world to mark the day.

Kick-starting the program of activities to mark the day, the department of Haematology mobilized their colleagues and embarked on sensitization tour, taking off from the office of the chief medical director (C.M.D.) of the hospital, Prof. A.D Yussuf.

From there the orientational team proceeded to the Admin block of the instruction where speeches were made to sensitize, orientate and encourage people to develop the zeal to always volunteer to donate their blood free of charge to save and preserve humanity.

The tour made by the team was becoming highly interesting as the hospital community was entertained by the buzling of pop music, sending messages to the general public on the need to be aware of the on- going sensitization program. Naturally, the fact that music is a magnetic instrument that attracts normal people to event, caught the attention of the on- Lookers and technically forced them to listen to the message being passed by the health practitioners. From the Administration block of the hospital, the team proceeded to the clinical areas of the hospital.

Subsequently, the team proceeded on their sensitization tour to Kwara State University, Malete where management, students and lecturers mobilized themselves and received the important information as passed by the health workers.

It would therefore not amount to the exaggeration to conclude that the event will no doubt convince many minds towards becoming adequately informed on the need to become a voluntary donor in furtherance to the advancement of humanity.
