Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has warned that any student found guilty of cybercrime would lose his studentship at the school.
The warning is coming as a reaction to the number of KWASU students that are currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.
NAN report claimed that EFCC has arrested at least 38 students linked to KWASU between July and September 2021. All the arrests were connected to cybercrime activities popularly known as “yahoo yahoo”.
More so, the report claimed that several students from the university are currently serving different jail terms for their involvement in internet fraud.
In addition to that, on September 20, 2021, EFCC arrested at least 30 KWASU students in a single raid over their involvement in cybercrime.

While speaking on behalf of the Director, University Relations, KWASU, Mr. Abdulrazaq Sanni, the chief information officer of the university, Mrs. Joke Adeniyi-Jackson, stressed that the authority of the school frowns against social vices.
She also stressed that the management of the school was making effort to sanitize the students against all forms of social ills.
She said: ”The school management strongly frowns at unwholesome practices and has zero tolerance for social vices, which is vehemently preached against.
”The school management through its Safety Unit has designed programs to sensitize students against social ills because KWASU has the mandate to produce graduates worthy in learning and character.
”Furthermore, a major step the school management is taking is to accommodate as many students as possible on campus through the Students’ Smart City Project.
”This will enable close monitoring of students because, currently, a large percentage of the student population are living off-campus and as such susceptible to negative influences which are beyond the control of the University.
”So, the Smart City project which has commenced is expected to accommodate about 20,000 students upon completion.”
No fraud pays... Unfortunately, students and youths of this generation don't longer believe in working hard.
