The Kwara State Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajia Mopelola Abdulmaliq-Bashir, has called on lecturers and teachers to be mindful of how they relate with students, as this could affect them positively or negatively.
Abdulmaliq-Bashir made the call today during a continued sensitization tour of Osi Community in Ekiti Local Government and College of Health Technology, Offa.
She advised the academic staff not to push students into depression and frustration through excess stress on campus, as this may lead such studentsto take solace in drugs.
The Commissioner admonished the Management of the school to set up a committee that will be charged with handling cases of violence against students.
She also advised parents to give birth to children they can afford to train, as this will help reduce the strain of taking care of many children while also preventing giving out children to relations to train on their behalf.
On the issue of Human Rights, the Coordinator of Human Rights Commission, Barr. Jumoke Olaoye, spoke on the various laws and punishment that is attached to the vices. She categorically stated that there is no excuse of ignorance when a culprit is apprehended.
The Olosi of Osi, Oba (Alh.) Salihu Abdulkareem, appreciated the efforts of the Government and the Ministry on matters concerning women and children.
He further urged parents to take care of their children as they will in turn be taken care of by them in their old age.
The Provost of the institution, Dr. Aliyu Abdulrafiu, appreciated the Commissioner and her entourage for their eagerness in making sure all nook's and crannies of the state is aware of the dangers of illicit drugs and gender violence.
