Kano Police Foil Terror Attack, Recover Vehicle With Explosive Devices



The Kano State Police Command says it has foiled attacks by suspected terrorists and recovered a vehicle with prohibited firearms and explosive devices.

The State Commissioner of Police, Samaila Shu’aibu Dikko, disclosed this on Thursday, July 21, 2022, while addressing pressmen at the Police Headquarters Bompai.

"Team of Policemen led by CSP Alabi Lateef while on intelligence-led surveillance patrol along Chiranchi Dorayi Quarters Kano, in continuation of a case under investigation, intercepted a moving Mercedes Benz Motor Vehicle. While they were about to stop and search the vehicle, the occupants opened fire on the Policemen and the Operatives engaged the hoodlums ran away and abandoned the said motor vehicle," the CP stated.

"Search conducted by a team of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defence (EOD-CBRN), the following items were recovered from the vehicle; (1) Three (3) A47 rifles with magazines fully loaded with Ninety (90) rounds of ammunition (2) Fourteen (14) empty shell of AK47 ammunitions (3) Three different mobile phones (4) different types of Explosive Devices (IEDs)" he added.

The Commissioner noted that discreet investigation is in progress with a view to arrest the hoodlums.

The CP also disclosed that 200 crime suspects were arrested from 27th June 2022 to 21st July 2022.

The suspects were arrested for various offences including armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft, fraud, thuggery (Daba), drug abuse and others.

Giving the breakdown, the police boss disclosed that the suspects include 42 armed robbers, nine kidnappers, 16 fraudsters, and two human trafficking suspects.

Others are 27 motor vehicle and tricycle thieves, 12 suspected drug dealers and 92 suspected thugs (‘Yan Daba)

Items recovered from the suspects include 25 Rifles, 3 AK-47s, one Micro Uzi, one Pistol, one Pump Action, 10 locally made Pistols and 9 dane guns.



Others are 12 Motor Vehicles, 7 Tricycles, 3 Motorcycles, 122 knives, 96 other Rod-made sharp weapons, 269 parcels and 265 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp valued Two Million, Seven Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Naira (N2,725,000:00).

Also recovered were 74 bottles of Suck and Die Substance, 280 pieces of Exol Tablets, four Computer Laptops, 134 Mobile Phones and 16 Plasma TV sets.
